My study
Aims: To find out if exercise effects the mood of mentally healthy people.
Procedures: In my study, I designed a questionnaire about the effects of exercise on mood. My participants were fifty people - male and female, and of all ages. Some of my participants did no exercise at all, whereas others did exercise more than five times a week. The questions were all designed to find information about the participant, how much exercise they did and what type it was, and how exercise made them feel.
Findings: My results showed that the males exercised much more than the females, with 45% doing 4 or more sessions of exercise a week, compared with 23% for female. Only 2% of men did one or no sessions of exercise a week, whereas 27% of females did one or none. My results showed that males were happier than females by 2%, and 36% of females said they were either stressed or tired, compared to 30% for men. 60% of men described themselves as energetic, compared to 53% for women.
21 people said that they have had an injury which caused them to stop exercising. 90% said that their mood worsened while they couldn’t exercise. 4% said they felt the same, and another 4% said their mood improved.
Extrovert & Introvert:
In general:
Age
Conclusions:
Criticisms: Although I tried to make my study as reliable and valid as possible, there are some things I could not control. Firstly, some of the participants may not have told the truth in the questionnaire, either because they didn’t want people to know how they felt, or they have different self-perceptions to everyone else. I tried to make the questionnaire as confidential as possible, by asking participants to put their completed questionnaire into an envelope with the other completed ones.
